Claudia Sanford
Program Director, Tenant Organizing & Housing Placement
Claudia Sanford serves as the Director of Housing Placement, Relocation, and Tenant Organizing at United Community Housing Coalition (UCHC), bringing over 12 years of experience to her role. Initially employed as a housing placement counselor, Claudia played a crucial part in the early days of UCHC's tax foreclosure program, where she oversaw the direction and staffing of the Housing Preservation and Rapid Re-Housing (HPRP) programs and the Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) program.
In her current position, Claudia manages tenant organizing efforts, housing placement services, and relocation initiatives, including supervising a tenant-organizing program. Her dedication to community empowerment is evident in her leadership as a founding member of the Senior Housing Preservation-Detroit (SHP-D) coalition, where she currently serves as chair. Claudia has co-authored several papers on senior displacement and contributed a chapter on "Forensic Social Work," published by Fordham University.
Recognized for her commitment to community health, Claudia received the "Best of the Health Net Award" from Authority Health in December 2018. A graduate with a BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art, Claudia is passionate about ensuring that every resident has access to safe, affordable housing. Through her leadership at UCHC, she continues to advocate for tenant rights and foster housing stability in Detroit's diverse communities.
