Eleanor Carey
Program Director, Legal Support Services
Eleanor Carey brings a deep passion for housing justice and community empowerment to her role as Director of Legal Support Services at United Community Housing Coalition (UCHC). With a rich background in nonprofit experience across Metro Detroit, Philadelphia, and Ireland, Eleanor has worked on the front lines of housing-related efforts. Her experience includes conducting street outreach to house individuals experiencing homelessness, providing housing counseling for those newly housed, and offering critical tax foreclosure counseling. Prior to joining UCHC, she played a pivotal role as Deputy Finance Director and Operations Director for Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib’s re-election campaign.
As a 5th generation Detroiter, Eleanor is deeply invested in the city’s future. Her work is driven by a commitment to inclusivity and equity, ensuring that Detroit’s growth benefits everyone. Outside of her work at UCHC, she serves as Chair of the Detroit Gaelic League Cultural Consortium and is the Corresponding Secretary for the Michigan Democratic Women’s Caucus.
Eleanor holds a B.A. from Bryn Mawr College in Philadelphia and a Master’s degree in Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation from Trinity College Dublin, which she earned while living in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
